Dry eye disease affects millions of people and can cause burning, grittiness, watery eyes, and blurry vision that get in the way of work, driving, and screen time. It is still underdiagnosed, but newer testing helps us find it earlier, when treatment is often easier and more effective.
Effective dry eye treatment starts with finding the root cause of your symptoms. As part of our vision care services, we pair advanced diagnostic technology with proven options, including IPL therapy, gland expression, prescription treatments, and a care plan built around your needs.
Dry eyes rarely have a single cause. Age, hormonal changes, meibomian glands that are not working well, certain medications, dry indoor air, long hours on screens, and underlying health conditions can all disrupt the tear film that protects your eye. The National Eye Institute notes that infrequent blinking during screen use and hormonal shifts, including after menopause, can contribute. Symptoms range from mild irritation to constant discomfort that interferes with daily activities.
Many people reach for over-the-counter artificial tears, which can offer short-term comfort but often do not address why your eyes are dry. We look for the cause first, then match treatment to it, which may give you longer-lasting comfort than drops alone.
We start with a thorough dry eye evaluation that looks at tear production, tear quality, tear stability, eyelid health, your meibomian glands, and environmental factors. A comprehensive eye exam also helps rule out other conditions that cause similar symptoms.
Based on what we find, we build a plan around your symptoms and daily routine. It may combine more than one option to bring both quick relief and longer-term improvement.
Your plan may include in-office care such as OptiLight IPL therapy or TearCare, prescription medications, and lifestyle changes. We give you detailed instructions for home care and ongoing management.
Regular follow-up visits let us track your symptoms and the health of your eyelids and tear film, then fine-tune your plan as your eyes respond.
Our diagnostic and treatment technology, including IPL therapy when it is appropriate for you, helps us find the cause of your dry eye and treat it directly.

Dry eye does not always feel dry. Many people notice watery eyes, blurry vision that comes and goes, or tired eyes at the end of the day. Common signs include:
Allergies, infections, and other conditions can cause similar symptoms, so an eye exam is the best way to find out what is really behind them.
Your tears have three layers: oil, water, and mucus. The oil layer comes from meibomian glands along the edges of your eyelids, and it keeps tears from evaporating too quickly. When those glands become blocked or stop working well, tears break down faster than they should. This is called evaporative dry eye, and it is the most common type we see.
Treating the glands can make a bigger difference than adding more drops. Depending on your exam findings, Dr. Rudser may recommend light-based therapy, an in-office gland treatment, or a combination, and she will explain how each option fits your symptoms.
Our two in-office options work in different ways. OptiLight uses light pulses below the eyes to calm eyelid inflammation and support gland function, and most patients who benefit complete a series of four sessions spaced two to four weeks apart. TearCare applies gentle, controlled heat to the eyelids, and the doctor then clears blocked glands in a visit of about 15 minutes per eye. Some patients use both, along with lid hygiene at home.
Not every treatment fits every patient. We review your health history and medications in person before recommending light-based therapy, and we confirm candidacy during your dry eye evaluation.
IPL therapy targets inflammation and improves meibomian gland function, addressing a leading cause of dry eye. This advanced treatment may improve tear quality and provide longer-lasting relief from dry eye symptoms.
We offer prescription options for dry eye, including anti-inflammatory medications and tear production enhancers. These therapies target specific parts of dry eye and may work better than over-the-counter drops.
Healthy eyelids support healthy tears. We provide detailed instructions and professional-grade products to keep your eyelids clean and reduce the inflammation that contributes to dry eye discomfort.
Our approach includes nutritional recommendations and supplements that support tear production and eye health. Proper nutrition plays a vital role in managing dry eye symptoms and maintaining long-term eye health.
We help identify environmental factors that worsen dry eye symptoms and provide practical solutions to improve your comfort at home and work. Simple changes can make a significant difference in symptom management.
Every patient’s dry eye condition is unique. We develop personalized treatment plans that combine multiple approaches based on your specific symptoms, lifestyle, and underlying causes for optimal results.
