Find the right fit for your eyes at Advanced Eye Care Professionals.

Do you need vision correction but don’t want to wear eyeglasses full time? Contact lenses are a great option for almost anyone.

At Advanced Eye Care Professionals, Dr. Amy Rudser fits patients with everything from everyday soft lenses to specialty designs for harder-to-fit eyes, so you leave with lenses matched to how you actually live.

What are my options?

Today, we have many contact lens options available that can accommodate a variety of lifestyles and situations where contacts are more convenient than glasses. After assessing your prescription and how you want to use the contact lenses, Dr. Rudser can make specific recommendations for which option(s) will work the best for your individual situation.

Here are some of the most common contact lens types:

  • Gas Permeable Contacts – These were some of the original contacts made, and we still use them today for a variety of different situations! The optics are fantastic, and the durability is great with these lenses. They are recommended to be replaced every 1-2 years and use a different contact lens solution than soft contacts. They can correct all of the same prescriptions as soft contact lenses.
  • Soft contact lenses – These are a faster acclimation time when you’re first starting out due to the tremendous comfort that happens pretty instantly with these materials. This category of contacts has evolved significantly over the past several years, and there are more parameters available than ever before. The replacement schedule for these varies depending on the lens but can range from single use, weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly.
Contacts in this category can correct:
    • Far sighted (hyperopia)
    • Near sighted (myopia)
    • Astigmatism (toric contacts)
    • Presbyopia (multifocal contacts)

There are also color contacts for those who are interested in a bolder or different appearing iris color.

  • Hybrid Contacts – This is a combination of a gas-permeable center with a soft skirt lens around it that acts as a landing zone on the ocular surface. These lenses are available for a variety of prescriptions, like soft contact lenses, and also as some specialty contact lens options for keratoconus. Replacement schedule for these lenses is every 6 months.
  • Scleral Lenses – These are a special type of contact lens that vaults over the entire corneal surface. Most often used for post-cornea transplant patients who can’t get good enough vision with glasses since the ocular surface is irregular. Replacement schedule varies based on the corneal health and how it’s fitting over the irregular corneal surface.
A word about contact lens solutions: they are NOT the same!
Not only do the solutions vary based on the different manufacturers’ different formulations for active cleaning agents, but there are very different solutions made for soft vs the gas-permeable contact lenses. Make sure to use the solution that was recommended to you for your specific type of contacts!

Contact lenses are medical devices, and how you care for them matters as much as which ones you wear. The American Optometric Association recommends washing your hands before handling lenses, replacing them on schedule, avoiding tap water or homemade solutions, and never sleeping in lenses that are not approved for overnight wear. Skipping these steps is one of the most preventable causes of eye infections in contact lens wearers.

Need a prescription?

A comprehensive eye exam checks your overall eye health and updates your glasses prescription, but it does not include the measurements needed to fit contact lenses. Because contacts sit directly on the surface of the eye, a contact lens exam adds specific measurements, such as corneal curvature and pupil size, along with a fitting and, if needed, trial lenses to confirm comfort before you commit to a full supply.

If you already wear contacts, bring your current lens boxes or prescription information to your appointment. Contact lens wearers should have their eyes checked annually to confirm the lenses are still fitting and tolerated well, so if your eyes ever feel uncomfortable, red, or irritated, do not wait for your next scheduled exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of contact lenses do you offer?

We fit a wide range of contact lenses at Advanced Eye Care Professionals, including daily disposables, extended wear lenses, toric lenses for astigmatism, and multifocal lenses for presbyopia. Dr. Rudser recommends the option that best matches your prescription, eye health, and lifestyle.
Yes. Toric contact lenses are specifically designed to correct astigmatism and are fit to stay properly oriented on your eye. Dr. Rudser will determine whether toric lenses or another option is the best fit during your contact lens exam.
Yes. A comprehensive eye exam updates your glasses prescription, but contact lenses require additional measurements of your cornea and a fitting to ensure comfort and proper fit. Our Lakeville office schedules this as a separate contact lens exam and fitting appointment.
Most people can wear contact lenses successfully, but Dr. Rudser evaluates your tear film, corneal health, and lifestyle needs before recommending a lens type. Conditions like significant dry eye may call for a specific lens material or a modified wearing schedule.
Discomfort is not something to push through. If your contacts feel dry, irritated, or blurry, contact our Lakeville team so Dr. Rudser can check the fit, lens material, and your eye health to find a more comfortable solution.
Replacement schedules depend on the lens type you’re prescribed, ranging from daily disposables to monthly lenses. Following the schedule Dr. Rudser recommends helps protect your eye health and keeps your vision clear.
