Vision is an integral part of our everyday lives. We use it constantly while we’re awake to help us function at our highest level. And since our eyes are connected to the rest of our body there are many different things that can show up on an eye exam as we assess not only the visual function but the ocular health too.
In addition to assessing your visual acuity, (aka 20/20 vision or whatever level your eyes are able to see) Dr. Amy Rudser will test for common eye diseases, assess how your eyes are functioning together, and more.
Serious health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol and thyroid eye disease can be seen on eye exams.
Don’t put it off — schedule your comprehensive eye exam at Advanced Eye Care Professionals today.
Most eye care professionals recommend yearly eye exams. But it depends on your age, risk factors, and whether or not you wear corrective lenses.
The American Optometric Association (AOA) recommends children have their eyes examined at 6 months old, three years old, at the start of school, and every two years until age 18.
For adults, the AOA recommends a comprehensive eye exam every two years for ages 18 to 60 at minimum and annual exams for seniors age 61 and older.
Contacts can allow for more freedom for certain task-specific activities where glasses can get in the way. Many of our patients love having the flexibility to choose how they see the best based on what is on their schedule on any given day. There are many different contact lens options available to address a number of different prescription ranges, including contacts for astigmatism and multifocal contacts for those who want less dependence on over-the-counter readers. Dr. Rudser will review which options are the best for your individual situation.
A comprehensive eye exam does not include a contact lens evaluation (or fitting if you’re new to contact lenses). If you already wear contacts we can often do the evaluation at the same visit as your eye exam. If you’re new to contacts we will schedule a separate appointment for learning how to put them in, take them out and care for them after your comprehensive eye exam so we have the most up to date prescription for you!
