Emergency Eye Care

Immediate Care for Urgent Eye Health Concerns

Urgent Eye Care Situations

Urgent and emergent eye care situations can progress quickly to not great outcomes. As such, when you have something urgent come up related to your eyes it’s best to see an eye doctor. We’re here to help! If it’s during the normal business hours, please call the clinic and we’re happy to work you into the schedule. If it’s after business hours (because sometimes things come up outside of the hours we are usually in the office!) then follow the directions on the voicemail and Dr. Rudser will call you back to discuss next steps.

FAQ

When should I go to the emergency room versus calling your office?

Call our office first for eye-specific emergencies during business hours. Go to the emergency room for life-threatening injuries, severe head trauma with eye involvement, or when our office is closed and you can’t reach our after-hours service.

Will my insurance cover emergency eye care?

We will bill your major medical insurance for visits related to this as an office visit. The level of the office visit is determined by how many diagnosis and how severe it is.

How quickly can you see me for an eye emergency?

We reserve time slots specifically for emergencies and can often accommodate same-day urgent appointments. Call immediately, and we’ll schedule you as quickly as possible based on the severity of your condition.

What should I do if I get chemicals in my eyes?

Immediately flush your eyes with clean water for at least 15 minutes, then call our office or seek emergency care. Don’t wait to see if symptoms improve – chemical exposure requires prompt professional evaluation.

Can I drive myself to an emergency eye appointment?

If your vision is significantly impaired or you’re experiencing severe pain, don’t drive yourself. Have someone drive you or call for emergency transportation to ensure your safety and the safety of others.

What information should I have ready when calling about an emergency?

Have your insurance information, describe your symptoms clearly, note when they started, and explain any recent injuries or exposures. This helps us prioritize your care and prepare for your visit.
